Effective in community-acquired
pneumonia (especially if causitive agent may be
ß-lactamase producing H. influenzae or Klebsiella
pneumoniae.
Only second-generation agent to cross
the blood-brain-barrier, but third-generation
agents ceftriaxone or cefotaxime are more
effective in treating menningitis.
